The Surf Club, Miami Postcard by Sir Winston Churchill 10.5 x 14.8 cm "The Surf Club, Miami”: In 1946 Churchill was advised by his doctor to spend the winter months away from Britain. Winston and Clementine spent many months in Florida as guests of the industrialist Colonel Frank Clarke and during this time Churchill executed this work. Churchill: The Painter Churchill's talent was multi-facetted, he was a soldier, politician, wartime leader, writer and historian. In 1915, at the age of 41 Churchill discovered a natural talent as an artist and for the rest of his life he painted enthusiastically. His art embraced many subjects and locations in Britain and around the world. Churchill painted over 500 canvases predominantly of landscapes, but also still lifes and self portraits.
